Some songbirds with the R5 and 600 F4 IS II. The last two are with the 1.4TC.
The animal eye AF works really well in situations like this.

Very impressive. How are you finding an evf for wildlife as opposed to a ovf?

The only bad thing I can say about the evf so far is trying to find the subject initially has been difficult on a few occasions, but once you are focused on the subject I don't notice a difference between the two.

KiloHotelphoto, after seeing these fine examples of yours, it makes me want to breakout my Vivitar 120 - 600 lens, not in the same category as your 600 F4 but it is still fun to use.

hmmmm nope not got the reach and low ƒ stop, looks like i'll have to get my parot costume out and sneak up on them to close the distance :)
there are a few of those 600 ƒ4 second hand for 7k over here but thats a buck or two too far.

Sounds like there is a career in the circus just calling out for you. Maybe you could do this after work for those few extra pounds you need. ;)

Or look at the 500mm f4. I think they are little cheaper.

yes i've been on stage before performing some of Laurel and Hardy's more slapstick skits.
as for the 600mm i'm eyeing up the sig 150mm - 600mm at the moment, still trying to decide if i can justify getting an outex condom for my camera, as i'm around water / rain alot its a shame to have to leave the camera at home because it would be at risk of a drenching.
even if its not raining i do cross streams etc when looking for new places to shoot so practically it is a justification but price wise its a bit steep at £400+ for the pro cover (front and back glass and the silicone condom)

yep, both those lenses (tam and sig) are pretty evenly matched agaist each other, but they both loose out to primes or top end peepers with faster ƒ stops.
normally to way to overcome that is on a tripod and do a longer exposure, unless you shooting the monty python parrot thats not gonna work!! :)

It's hard to justify the price of a 600/4 if you're not a professional. For me this is just a hobby but I was smart and never got married or had kids so I was able to afford it. It was actually the first piece of Canon gear I bought when I switched from Pentax in the summer of 2017 along with the 5dsr, never had a regret about the switch or the purchase.

It will just go into zone type autofocus and search, focusing on anything.

Lovely photos KH. The kit and your expertise seems to be a good marriage. I'm just a pensioner on a restricted budget so your kit is way beyond my reach. In saying that, I only have my 7Dii, Sigma 150-500 and Tamron 18-400 for such shots so I guess one has to be content with one's lot. Again, lovely shots. TFS.
