From my old EOS5 film camera, I have a 60-T3 cable release which I would like to convert for use with an EOS 80D of a friend. 80D requires a 3mm pin jack, but I am not sure about which cable goes where. Does anyone know?
While it may be able to cut off the end and rewire the 60-T3 to the 3mm end of a RS-60E3, I wouldn't suggest it. The T3s seem to be going for $50 new and $22 used, the 60e3 is $22 new. For the price I wouldn't risk ruining a perfectly good cord, you may as well sell it on ebay and trade for a newer remote. Personally I like the RC-6 wireless remote from canon which works with the DSLR lineup and is also only $22. Just my 2 cents before cutting up a working remote cord.
Thanks for your response Johnsey. The trouble is finding a local store that sells a suitable cable release for EOS 80D online. (Covid restrictions apply). As I have a 3mm jack and the 60-T3 remote I thought I might be a real handyman and do the conversion. I wouldn't care to sell the T3; (I see it sells for about $12 in Europe). I hate the procedure and red tape involved. If I find an RS-60E3 I'll sure buy it and keep the T3 as a memento of old times. You make sense though and I'll double my efforts to find a compatible remote. Incidentally, I never understood why Canon change their remotes to fit only a few of their cameras. 60 T3 is compatible only with some EOS film cameras... What risk would there be if I did try to fit a 3mm jack, correctly wired? The correct wiring information is what I miss. Thanks again. Vasilis
What about the wireless rc-6 which is also cheap and works with the 80d and your 5d4? I am a little surprised both that and the wired one are hard to find on amazon or calumet in Europe.
I do have a wireless remote for my 5D MK4. Amazon and other online stores have all those, but before I resort to purchases from another country I try other approaches first (I am a little tired of the online ordering ritual, as it evolved with the covid quarantine...). Occasional driving to a store is more fun and doing some DIY work even more. I will keep searching for local stores carrying the right stuff; at least they have much faster deliveries (usually the next day). Thanks for your feedback, Johnsey.
