As much as I would like to get another 24-70L, most L glass is out of my range now, Even the EFs 18-55 2.8 would be pushing my budget very hard. I was looking at the next best thing to Canon glass, and that is Sigma. I have owned Sigma in the past and have liked them. I was looking at either the 17-50 2.8 or the 17-70 2.8-4. I am not looking for native EFm glass since I hope to some point to move back to a full-sized crop camera. I had a line on a well-priced 24-105L, but it sold before I could get it. Suggestions? Other options?
I have a Sigma 17-70 which I use on a Pentax and it is a great lens with outstanding build quality. I have never used a 17-50 but I have heard good things said about it. I chose the 17-70 for its FL range (better than the 18-55 kit lens) so it comes down to what focal length suits you better.
I had the 17-50 when I had my 40d and I did like it. The only reason I sold it was I wanted to fund the 24-70L. I am not that worried about the variable aperture on the 17-70 since I rarely shoot wide open. Wish I had a camera store near me. but I think the closest is over in Houston.
I know what you mean about the L-Series lenses. I was extremely lucky to get my 17-40mm for a very good price. I never expected to be able to afford one. I now know why they are so expensive to buy new.
I got my L glass when I had a nice tech support/system&network admin job. I got what I could when I could. I live on disability now. I was amazed at the price jump on a lot of the lenses since 2014 when I last looked. Though if a good 24-70L shows up I would prob get it, but for 3rd party glass I would rather pick those up new. I do have a few months. Just need this before I go to Colorado later in the year now.
have you checked out mpb.com for the sigma lenses? i get alot of stuff from them, great company. the only sigma zoom i have for my M50 is the EF 18-35mm art, the other sigma lenses are bigger EF primes i plan on keeping my M50 if i change cameras so i have quite a few efm lenses
