Hi all, Probably a question you've heard asked many times before. Can anyone recommend a teleconverter that would fit a Tamron 150 - 600 f5-6.3 Di VC USM lens (the old one) and a Canon 5D iv. Also would using it interfere with the quality of my photos in anyway. Thanks all Pete
Depends on what you are looking at spending. For starters, I would look a Tamron converter. 02_Tele-Converter_en.pages (tamron-usa.com) check page 3. If you go down the Canon extender path, I would check if the rear element of your lens, and the front of the extender could come into contact. I have not long purchased a Canon 1.4 ii extender, I have not used it that much, but I am pretty impressed. One thing to be aware of is that you will be shooting one stop slower with a 1.4 and two stops with a 2.0 extender. You may find that your camera will not autofocus, or if it does, it will be slower. Are you looking for a 1.4x or a 2.0x converter? Gary
Just as a thought Pete, how do you think that a used aps-c body with a 1.6 crop factor would work for you? Gary
Hi Gary, Already have a 77D (aps-c), but I prefer to use the 5D IV. Mainly because it's a new purchase, but it is a superior camera.
My 2 cents would be the 1.4 is probably your best bet, Gary's idea was right that you should pair it with the same brand extender for best results. So your basically paying 500 to upgrade that lens specifically. Thing is Pete there are no great options here .... you can spend 10k buying an EF 800mm lens, 600mm is 15k new and you already have 600mm zoom which is quite long. Honestly if it was me I would grab a Nikon P1000 if i really wanted to shoot that long, it should be easier to shoot with in those few situations than dealing with light fall off from a TC and possible AF issues. I also would rather crop my 5d image down than shoot on a APC body, it does the same thing cropping the image from the lens in camera or in software the way i see it.
i use the sigma 100-400mm c on an M50 with you extra 200mm you should be good for most song birds, as for the TC's i use canon Mk III x2, , i've not found a 1.4x III as yet in my used store, i find that the added reach is worth it, when there is enough light, with wildlife i will usually use the lens w/o tc for general walk around stuff, if i'm in a location where i'm staying put for a bit and i have regular visitors at a similar distance then i'll use the x2 for stuff like moon shots then the tc is a very good option as you can eliminate the light loss of the tc with settings
