I am hoping that I am in the right section since this is not a troubleshooting issue. Okay, my camera has an 18mp sensor. However, the EXIF Data on one particular image states: CCD Width 6.81. Does this mean that the image occupied only 6.81mp? Thanks for any clarification. Regards, Tony
It probably has more to do with your exif reader misinterpreting the exif data, what program are you using to get this information and has the picture been edited at all.
Out of curiosity are you shooting in jpg at a medium or small quality setting? Those settings change the pixel count and compression to give smaller file sizes. I've always shot raw on the cameras I own and have not seen any entry similar to that on my cameras.
Image quality is set to 18MP 5184X3456, a bit on the large size. Okay, I will try shooting RAW and see what happens. Many thanks for your assistance. Tony
the exif data you're referring to - is it from the original, unedited full size picture? i put my full sized pics up on flickr, and sometimes post a smaller size to boards. if the pic on the board is clicked, it leads to the pic on flickr with all the exif data, and if that pic is clicked, you can see the full sized image. btw, a free raw converter i sometimes use it raw therapee, although i usually use DXO. both have left my exif data intact, but on the other hand, it's possible i changed the settings to do so.
Well, I took your advice and for the last 30 minutes I have been attempting to download Rawtherapee. What a hassle as they continue to try and get a person to sign up for everything under the sun and then Rawtherapee doesn't get downloaded. Unbelievable. Thanks anyway. TT
huh... i didn't run into that problem when i first downloaded it or upgraded. in fact, i just started a download of it now with no issues. are you trying to download it via download.com or a third party site like that? they do tend to add lots of add-ons. did you use this page to download? http://rawtherapee.com/downloads then right click and save as (or whatever mac users to do save) on the green arrow that matches your system? there are no upsells, cross sales or other bs there.
Okay, I did finally get it downloaded and will begin working with it as soon as possible. What are the advantages, disadvantages of shooting Raw? More latitude when using PPE? Thanks again, Tony I have been uploading images in Flickr., and wonder if you may know how to transfer images from Flickr., to let's say PentaxForums.com. thnx, TT
you can change almost every perameter of the photo - you can change the white balance, exposure and other settings, too. you can do more to minimize noise, too.
Well, good to know. I recently discovered that the Noise Reduction Feature on FastStones Image Viewer is really excellent as it eliminates most of the noise and I can barely notice a difference in the image. Does a great job. I have been uploading images in Flickr., and wonder if you may know how to transfer images from Flickr., to let's say PentaxForums.com. thnx, TT Thanks again, Tony
Why do people seem to think that you have to get third party software to process Canon raw files when Canon supply their own DPP program for free with every camera. Most people never seem to try it even though it works perfectly.
different raw programs have different features and algos, as well as ease of use, not to mention how heavy they are when it comes to processor use. i didn't care for the canon software myself, but that's not to say it won't work great for others. a lot of people also process all their pics, and some programs, like lightroom, have good organization when it comes to working with hundreds or thousands of pics at a time and organizing them. i didn't care for lightroom myself, but many of the pro and serious enthusiasts i know use it after trying many others.
