    Hello everyone,

glad to be returning to Canon and the forums.
I'm not a pro, but I love photography and have always been Canon since 2004, until in 2018 I jumped ship and went Sony with a metabone converter kept some of my canon glass.
I got sick of Sony's colours, by far Canon colours come out best compared to that and Nikon in my opinion, plus I have not time or interest to do photoshop etc...

I bought EOS R, with converter and attached my 35 1.4 II took my daughter for a quick shoot.
To be frank I was suprised how heavy the gear really is.
My canon flash is heavier than the sony, the camera also is, and the 35 II is quiet substantial and with the converter, it's long too.

    So, this experience changed my strategy with lenses to build my collection;
I feel I need lighter quality zoom lenses, or lighter intermediate quality primes...something like my Sony 85 1.8 and Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 would be phenomenal in the Canon equivalent.

I thought to myself maybe I should have gone 5D IV instead of the EOS R, to avoid the converter...but not fussed really, saving >$800 on just a camera makes sense to me.

    Any suggestions for future lenses?
    My current lenses:
    35 1.4 II
    24-70 2.8 II
    100 F2.8 Macro USM

Frankly before my experience today with the weight; I was considering: 135L F2, 16-35 F4 IS, 70-200 2.8 II obviously not all but they were top candidates, now I would put more consideration to weight.
Also, the 85 1.8 canon, isn't all that, I bought and sold it 4x before, it's decent for it's price and size, but honestly the Sony one is double price but waaay better. the 85 1.4 IS way too expensive, and sigma way too heavy :)

    thanks guys,

Go out and try with what you own lens wise. After a period of time, if you feel as if you are missing out on something, then looking for what could fill that gap.

I also agree, no reason t jump and buy multiple lenses for a trip. That said I do suggest keeping the kit as simple as possible when going on a trip, you mentioned in your other very similar post going to the middle east. I think the 24-70 is a good option as a walk about lens to minimize lens changes. I would say it pairs well with the 70-200, that is not the smallest or lightest lens though, the f4 is much more portable but I have traveled with the 2.8 IS.
That said I don't have the complaints with weight that you do, in fact I have hiked in the badlands with both my dslr kit and my medium format pentax 67 kit on my back, as well as taken them both overseas together. And I am not the most fit guy :D:eek:
