Hi everybody, Im a newbie to this forum. And im reaching out because my Canon 7d is sort of angry. It goes into zombie mode if i put a lens on it. I never had any problems with it. Untill my son borrowed it and used it with a Tamron lens. The Tamron lens also gave errors with his old 350d but it didnt go completely dead. But mine does. Black screen no reaction what so ever. So i took everything out. The big battery, the small one. The cf card. The lens. Cleaned the lens contacts with a soft cotton cloth. But now its not accepting my Canon lense anymore either. It goes black as well. No reaction. If i take the whole circus out again and put it back in without the lens it goes on again. My anxiety levels are high. What if he is broken. Or i can never use it with my lense or any lense at all. So yeah. Im scared. Bigtime. I would highly appreciate any help or advice. Kind Regards Luïsa, Netherlands,Europe
To go back to the basic's. What happens if you put your Canon lens on your camera. Remove the battery, and charge the battery. Once the battery is fully charged, replace the battery and try to turn the camera on? Do you have a second battery that you can charge and try it in your camera? Gary
Hey Gary, Yes i have 3. Tried that all but as soon as i put the lens on the camera dies. The lens was on that camera for years. Never a problem. But the problem started when the Tamron lens was switched. The Tamron lens also causes problems with the 350d. Im terrified now as to if ill ever be able to use a lens/my lens on my 7d. I know its an old camera but i think its a great one. Im just a hobby photographer. So technically im not really educated. I had a 30d and a 40d before and they both had shutterbuttonproblems. So i got the 7d. It never let me down. Untill my son used it. I cant see anything wrong with the pins inside the camera. And i cleaned the lens contacts with a cotton cloth. But as soon as i put the lens back on it dies. When you dont have back up equipment like i do its nervewrecking to find out you might be in trouble.
What happens if you turn the camera off. Remove the battery, remove the lens. Reinsert the battery, and try to turn the camera on? Gary
Yes. Checked the doorpin as well. It goes on when the lens isnt attached. And seems to function. But as soon as the lens goes on or stays on for a bit it blackens out again. Im clueless im sorry for my noobness.
Also as an add..i found my kitlens and out it on my 7d..no response. I put it on the 350d. It went ok but when you zoom out to 18mm it goes into error and when you restart its ok again. But my 7d only goes on after i reboot without a lens and as soon as it even smells the lens it goes black Tried it later again with the lens on it.It went on for a few seconds and it went black again. But i also tried it without the lens and it stayed on for a bit but also went off after a while. Im really stressed about it and what it could be.
Sorry for going about it. I put my old 32 gb cf card in and it went on with the lens. But as it pulled that one on my before im not cheering yet. Because it had the other cards in it before without problems. If the camera still works tomorrow ill be more hopefull
The camera is still working.I want nobody to touch it My sons old 350d is only working when the lens is zoomed in.For some reason with two different lenses it gives error 99 when you zoom out. (With Canon kitlens and Tamron zoomlens)
[\QUOTE="Luïsa, post: 23715, member: 4911"]Hey all, My son has an old 350d. When you zoom out with both the Canon Kitlens and his Tamron zoomlens it goes into error 99. I tried the Tamron on my 7d and my 7d went dead after that for a while so im not changing my lens on my 7d again. My faithful old combi just has to stay like this. Anyway does anybody know what the problem could be with the lens thing? Kind Regards Luïsa[/QUOTE] Im posting this from a duplicate thread you started Luisa, lets not split the situation into multiple threads.
Err 99 is a generic error when the camera body is having issues communicating. This has been raised by many and related to a number of things from lenses to memory cards. For this reason you will see a lot of suggestions on the fix, anything from cleaning contacts, changing memory cards, or simply rebooting the camera with and without the lens, factory resets. Etc... By now we can assume the lens has a major issue and different cameras handle it differently, your 7d for example clearly doesn't want to try and speak to the lens while the 350d only throws errors. With the other lens he has throwing errors as well is what gets a bit complicated. You cant really rule out his body starting to have issues with the lens contacts on the body either. Can I for a minute assume the 2 lenses in his Kit with the 350d are all about the same age circa 2005 and have been used quite a bit over the years? It may be as simple as they have been taken on and off enough to have worn the connectivity on both the body and two lenses and that's where the 99error started happening. I have no idea why the 7d put up such a fuss but I agree don't use the lens on it now that it started working right. You may not like my answer here, but i think his 350 and old lenses are ready for retirement and its time for an upgrade. Lens probably as well. The 350d with kit lens is probably worth $40 in the states still working and you can upgrade to a 50d maybe for like $200 with a lens. Not sure about Netherlands pricing. But repair would be more cost than replacement.
Sorry for the double thread. Thank you so much for your reply. I agree its very outdated. Its ready to have an urbex exploration on it Youre very right, its not worth any repairs done. I dont think the Tamron lens is used much tbh. But im affraid to try it again on my camera as like you said, and i laughed, doesnt want to talk to it at all hahaha. So i put my own old Canon lens back on my old 7d and i just hope it will be nice again. Because i love that camera. It has given me a lot of pleasure. I had a 30d and a 40d but the shutter got stuck. If i knew how to fix that i could let my son use them up first but then we still have the lens issues. I havent tried the kitlens on my 7d yet. I mostly used the canon 70-200mm on that camera. I have one lens to try and see what happens but thats a non zoom lens. Portraitlens 50mm. Not going to change anything on my 7d as im affraid it will get angry again. At the moment the camera holds a legendary status. Dont touch it dont look at it..dont make any eyecontact Dont fix it if it aint broke right? The thing is. Im worried if i buy another camera my son will break it. What would be a nice Canon for a beginner and a nice lens for his car hobby? The problem with that is also. He takes pictures inside and from a short distance as long distance when he goes highwayspotting. I have an external flash he could use.580 speedlite but i have old stuff. You guys must think im a dinosaur. What camera from this time would be equal to the 7d? I always thought the lower the number the better. Like the singular numbers being better then the 2 digit ones and the 3 or 4 digits. I could do with your advice. Big time. Hahaha. Kindest Regards Luïsa
