Hey i've been frustrated with my cannon 600d lately, it always pop out a message along the lines of Recording has been stop automatically. Currently I'm using a kingston canvas select plus 32gb u1 micro sd card using a converter to put on my camera. I've tested the speed using crystaldiskmark 8 and it show consistent 28-29 mb/s writing speeds and 90ish mb/s. I was recordig in 1080p 24fps with the standard bitrate and im not recording in raw. I tried to downsample the footage from 16mp to 8mp it lasted longer but still stop during the 13-16 minute mark. It wouldn't be a problem if i could continue recording after that but it just records for like 1-2 minutes and then the message would pop up again. I tried letting it cool off for 5 mins, change the adapter and nothing works. I was considering getting a u3 class card since it can record up to 4k so it should leave me some buffer room but that would be my last option. If it's worth anything i was recording at 30 shutter speed, 4.0 apperature dan 800 iso. Please help me i'm new and i'm frustrated. If u didn't understand something from my description just ask, sorry if it's not clear english is not my first languge. Thankyou for reading this and please help me.
Veredaux, welcome to the forum, this sounds like the same problem I have with my 60D. From what I have read and seen on youtube, this is done so the sensor does not over heat. This gives a limited recording time. When I am recording, I constantly have to hit the record button and patch it all together in photoshop.
Thanks for the reply craig, oh so even if i use a faster sd card it still will overheat? Is there anyway to prevent this other than changing the camera? Thanks in advance
Changing the card will probly do little but I checked out some youtube vids on the subject and have a look at "Movie recording has been stopped automatically (canon fix) " . The author of the video seems to suggest that a grade 10 card with faster down load will fix the prolem but I have not tried this myself. The second suggestion which I have used in the past is a program that you download onto your camera called BlackMagic. Again check out youtube on this I have had success with this one.
Thanks for the replay craig, unfortunately when i search black magic i keep getting camera reviews, are you sure it's called black magic and not magic lantern? Cuz i keep getting recommended those. Many thanks
My understanding is they use a 4gig clip size to stop from overheating. The DSLR is more compact and as large high performance sensor, its going to run hotter in a tighter space than a designated video camera. The storage speed is going to have very little to do with the fact that the sensor is running very hot recording a constant 20-30 min clip of video. I know even the ehigher end still cameras have 30min limits that people have mentioned. Honestly there may be a mandatory cool off period where the camera is programmed by Canon to not allow another full length recording after you got shut down on the first long clip . Magic Lantern is the 3rd party firmware you can overwrite in your camera and customize past canons built in thresholds. It hasn't been updated since 2018, but your camera is not new either so that probably works out. Blackmagic is a cine camera from canon Craig may have misspoke/or confused the terms. You can use magic lantern and should probably be fine, it would void any warranty or support from canon. And long term you may want to research best cameras for video and possibly streaming video setups if your primary use is video.
Oops sorry, you are correct, it should have been Lantern magic, this is is one of the videos " Quick Setup - Magic lantern for your Canon SLR - Unlock the video potential". As johnsey has said there could be an overheating problem if used too long a time, so caution is needed when using this software.
