Having just purchased a Puxma TS6350 I did not find the setup easy as some said. WIN 10
Using the CD provided I installed the driver OK But then wondered how to scan and print photos, maintenance, tasks etc,
No where in the instruction did it tell me I had to install apps to do this, they where not on the provided CD. I had to go to the Canon website to download separate apps for various aplication. I now have a 3 shortcuts on my Computer desktop to access the apps.
    is this the correct procedure?
    please comment

I can't speak to what came with your printer, but my canon printer scanner I bought a decade ago had the scanner and printer maintenance utility bundled together with a bunch of other tools and it had a program that started up with windows and had a launcher that you could open that had about 10-12 different tools on it. This was overkill and for perfomance reasons I had to tell windows 7 not to start any of that with windows startup. I suspect this printer is much more lightweight on the operating system.

Over the last decade, and with Win 10 being the primary Windows OS the last 5-6 years, most hardware has focused on being plug and play with drivers. Computer makers have phased out CD drives especially in laptops. In fact there is a good chance the software is out of date by the time your CD is being installed (meaning it probably had a few bug fix updates you can download).

They answer to your question is yes generally speaking these days I go strait to the bed and see what the downloads are for the hardware i'm connecting. With the printer scanner, all you need is a printer maintenance utility and a scanning utility, and if they through in some other editing software to create documents from your scans that is a plus. They may include these in the cd that comes with it depending on the size of the files.

    Your printers drivers/software etc....

and the operators manual which should also list any utilities and how they function for basic use.

I am afraid to activate the Norton extras, previously it caused a bug that took weeks to resolve only after doing a Norton uninstall and re install. They seem to make it difficult to contact support

Not sure how Norton comes into play here, was that on the CD because that would be very odd. Norton is an anti virus program, its nothing photographic related,, and if you use more than one anti virus at a time they can cause issues with your system and in fact may thing each other is a virus.
What issue did you have when it was installed?
