I have just purchased a 77D replacing my OAS60D. I shoot Raw and upload to Lightroom ( 5.7.1).
No problem with the 60D but Lightroom does not recognize Raw in the 77D. It will recognize JPEG uploads from the 77D.
Am I to change settings in the new camera for them to upload?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    John

The 77D wasn't supported until camera raw in LR 6.10. Simple way for adobe to drag people forward with software, only release support for newer cameras to the newer software.
I believe I read about a work around where it is possible to find a raw->DNG converter and import the DNGs instead. Not part of my workflow though so I can't speak from experience on how well that works.

John, I had a similar problem with my 60D I tried to up load my Raw files into photoshop 4 and photoshop refused to recognize the files. I upgraded to photoshop 13 and now photoshop recognizes the files, it could be your version of Lightroom is older than your camera so does not recognize the raw file, hope the is of some help.

Thank you. That makes sense. Typical money grab isn't it. Thanks for the information. I will have to think on this.

Yes it is helpful and frustrating to think that I have to spend money to upgrade the software. However i appreciate your reply.

You don't have to spend any money. Adobe provide a DNG converter that allows you to upload directly into LR.
    Have a look here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/adobe-dng-converter.html

    Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately this does not work. I have downloaded twice and no luck. The 77D does not appear to be on the list

With the software that come with your 60D was there a program called Digital Photo Professional.
Do you still have access to it as this allows you to manipulate the raw files and convert them to JPEGs
This may be one way around the problem.
My next suggestion is down load a copy of Gimp, a free photo program similar to photoshop.
The latest version of that may very well allow you to process your raw files and then convert them into a format you can use in LR.
Gimp is free and well worth a look and is as good as photoshop and LR, hope this may be of some help

I forgot to mention there is a heap of tutorial on youtube on how to use it.

    the programme.

Thank you for taking the time for your long reply.
My new camera is the 77D, the old one was the 60D which was sold with everything, so i do not have the programme.

I will try Gimp as suggested. thanks

You can download the Canon program. Just do a Google search for "Canon Digital Photo Professional" and choose a site from which to download.

GIMP is worth investigating too. Both programs have a learning curve.

Ray, do you know if that the same as the one that come with the 60D or a later version

    Thanks for all your replies.
I just talked to Canon and they do not have any converter to allow RAW images to be uploaded to Lightroom. They say i have to buy the updated Lightroom.

    Justas i thought originally.

    Thanks everyone.

    John,

If you have any command line experience, you can run this utility called ImageMagick to convert the Canon RAW format to a DNG and then import it.

I assume that it would be the latest version. I have no idea what version would have come with a 60D but, again, I would assume that the latest version would be backwards compatible.

I hope it is as this would be ideal for John to manipulate the Raw files and then convert them to JPEGs, I use it all the time then load them into photoshop with good results

That is an interesting service. I have not seen or heard of that before. I don't have a need for it right now but I will keep it in mind. Thanks, Phil.

I didn't think it existed either. If it didn't I was going to make one exactly like that! :p
