    Hi folks,
I’ve an error has started on one of my 80ds. When I switch on I get a message saying “Cards write protect switch is set to lock”.
Now after years of digital photography I’m not daft enough to switch the lock on but this is becoming increasingly an issue. My cards are only locked when full, I’ve even had the same error on cards new out the pack.
Has anyone seen It before ?? Any guidance would be appreciated
    Thanks

It’s rarely the card itself; it’s the little sensor inside the camera’s card slot that checks whether the lock tab is on or off. With time, that switch can get bent, worn, or even just a bit dirty, and then the camera thinks every card is locked, even fresh ones straight out of the pack.
Some people tape the lock tab in the “open” position as a workaround, but that’s more of a temporary hack. A long-term fix is to replace with Canon.

Thanks, that’s what one or two others have said, think I’ll likely replace it anyway
    Cheers
