Hi all, New to this forum and to the art of photography, so please be patient with my novice questions. Hope you can help me with my little problem. Instead of removing the memory card whenever I want to put photographs onto my laptop I would like to transfer them via wifi, but I cannot connect to it. The camera only gives the options to connect to the web, a wifi printer another camera or smartphone. Is there any other way. Thanks, Pete.c
Hi Pete, I do not profess to be a Canon expert but I think I have a solution for you. What you can do is buy a Wi-Fi SD card. Eye-Fi is a popular brand but there are plenty of others out there. Then you buy a CF adapter which will accept the SD card and then put that in your 400D. The adapters are a bit thicker than the normal CF card as they are Type 2 but your camera accepts both type 1 and 2 CF cards. Have a look at this video: You can get both products easily from eBay. I am pretty sure that will solve your problem and I am glad that you asked the question as I was not aware of this solution and I just might invest in one of those adapters myself as I have checked that the Type 2 CF cards will fit in my older Canon bodies. Please let us know how you go with this.
Hi Pete, Welcome to the forum. I am no expert either, but I done a quick look around on the net and I think another way could be for you to buy a HDMI mini (type-C) to USB cable. With this method, if it works, you would leave the card in the body at all times. You would plug one end of the cable into the camera, and the other into your laptop. Let us know what you decide, and how you get on. Gary
Hi, Thanks a lot for replying. I thought the camera was able to connect to a wifi computer just as a computer would connect to wifi as it is a wifi camera. So I will have to sort something out regarding your answers do my dilemma. thanks, pete
I am not sure why you think the 400D is a Wi-Fi camera. Production of this camera ended at the end of 2007 well before the inclusion of Wi-Fi facilities in cameras. I have downloaded the manual and there is no mention of Wi-Fi in it. And there are no Wi-Fi capable CF memory cards so the two suggestions already provided are possible solutions for you. There may be other solutions but I will leave that to others.
Hey Pete, Have a look at this, https://www.wikihow.com/Load-Pictures-from-a-Canon-Camera-to-a-PC-Using-Camerawindow A step by step wifi connection guide with pictures with your 4000D. Hope it helps, and let us know how you get on. Gary
OOOOPS! My mistake. I read your title as 400D instead of 4000D. You are correct, the 4000D is a Wi-Fi capable camera. If you don't have it, you can download the WiFi manual here: https://www.canon.co.uk/support/con...tal_slr/eos-4000d.aspx?type=manuals&language= Please accept my apologies. I had not heard of the 4000D until today and it is a very recent model. I hope you can get the Wifi to work.
Hi Gary, Did what you recommended, things appear to be working, but still having a little trouble. My laptop has picked up my cameras wifi signal, but will not connect. The lap top is saying they are connected and the camera is saying waiting to connect. Any clues what the problem may be, or is it just me missing some minor instruction and doing it wrong. Pete
Hey Pete, I would double check that you have done everything correctly. I would also have a quick look at the instructions that Rayallen has posted and see if there is something that has been missed. Gary
Hi guys, A bit of good news. After several attempts, I have succeeded with my mission. I connected the camera to my laptop, via a usb cable, and saved images that way. And once I was able to download the canon image gateway and change a few settings, both my laptop and camera connect with no problems at all. Thank you very much for your assistance in this matter. Peter.
Peter, Thank you for starting this thread. You have taken me down a path I was not expecting. Firstly, I learnt about CF adapters that take an SD card. And they can be wifi capable. You have a wifi capable camera but none of my cameras can do that. So, I researched the best way that I could achieve wifi capability on all my cameras and the oldest was made around 2002-2003. I now have a 16GB Toshiba FlashAir SD card. This card has a built-in antenna and some sort of wifi chip. It provides wifi connection from any camera to any wifi capable device. I have tested it in both of my Pentax cameras and it works very easily and fast with the Toshiba app on my Samsung S7. Setup was no problem at all. That's two cameras down and two to go. Once I was satisfied that the Toshiba card worked I have now ordered an SD to CF adapter card. When that arrives I fully expect that I will have wifi capability on the two old Canons. Of course, I can't guarantee it but I am confident and I will report back when it arrives. I am posting this in case it helps somebody else who may have been thinking about this subject. It is always exciting learning about and trying new things. So, far it has cost me a bit over AU$50 on ebay.
That's great rayallen, feels good that I have actually helped a experienced photographer. Thanks for letting me know. Hope everything else works out for you. Peter.
