Sun on the wires. I saw this scene yesterday on my morning walk and decided that I would be there at the same time today with my camera. I have always wanted to take an image like this and now I have. I think I could do even better but this one will do for now. Canon EOS-1Ds, Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6.

Very interesting! I'm glad you enjoyed the process. I like how the wires show up against the background.

Thanks Jim. As the angle of the early morning sun changes I will be watching to see if this effect improves or not.

I can see what you are trying to do here Ray. Just as a thought, would a HDR image work? You may get more detail in the sky and in the shadows.

Hi Gary, No, I think HDR would not have been appropriate. There was no detail in the sky because this image needed a cloudless sky and bright sun to put the shine on the wires. Fortunately the sun was not in the frame but you could see where the light was coming from and I wasn't about to mess with that. Maybe I could have included less sky by shooting from the other side of the road but there is no safe area to stand over there and I would have had my back to oncoming traffic so it would have been dangerous. As for detail in the shadows, the RAW file did have plenty of detail but I deliberately made the shadows much darker to make the glow on the wires more prominent and to make the scene look more like my eyes were seeing it. In this case, the camera recorded the scene differently to how I saw it. It was different again this morning as the sun was much brighter.

No worries Ray, I am looking forward to your future images and how you progress with this one.

Ray, I think that taking the time to go out and retake the shot will be well woth your effort and a good example for the rest of us to follow.

Thank you, Craig. I can't predict when that might happen. I rise at the same time each day but the sun is rising later and later. The last few mornings have been overcast so I don't know if the different time of the sun's rising and the different angle. As I have indicated above a cloudless sky is required.
I will keep watching to see if there is a morning when the wires are glowing but it could be 12 months before it happens again. Time will tell.
