    Good morning,
I am new on this forum and I tried to find the topic for my question but I think there is no topic for this.

I have a 17-85mm EFS lens for my EOS 1000d. The lens was working fine for 9 years. Until a few days ago I received a error message on the autofocus. Its says: "communication error between lens and camera". The macro focus ring doesn't move at all. When I use the manualfocus there is no problem to make photo's. The lens is cleaned, and the inside of the body is also cleaned after this message but still no auto focus. Does anyone know what is going on?

Well you were right to check the lens and camera contacts, I would make sure those are clean as well, as the issue is definitely electronic.
Seems like others online have issues with that lens after 5 or more years, I found an article where a user tracked down that their issue resided in a flex cable inside the lens. Which may be your issue. https://martybugs.net/blog/blog.cgi/gear/lenses/Canon-17-85mm-Lens-Issues.html
I guess the question here is spend similar money on another kit level plastic lens, get it fixed, or upgrade to something more durable.
