    Hi,
I have a Canon SX50. There are two zooming speeds depending on how quickly (and far) you turn the rocker lever on the shutter button - a slow and faster speed.
With the slow zoom, the camera zooms in and out perfectly smooth. However, when using the faster method, the camera zoom is very rough, jerky and clunky. Also, when retracting the lens using the faster zoom, the camera will often stop zooming, make a beeping noise and then sometimes give a "Lens Error. Will Shut Down Automatically. Restart Camera" message (white text on black background).

Camera works perfectly for everything else - it's just the faster zoom giving issues. I have already disassembled the camera using a great guide here:-https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gje1QFH0f3w

I checked the lens barrel and could not find any dust particles (but cleaned it anyway). I'm thinking the culprit may be the ultra sonic motor and would love to know if it's repairable or whether I would need a replacement motor.

Has anybody had any experience of this?? TIA

Never had any of the bridge cameras, but I looked online saw that you can get a US motor for 60 bucks, but this could also be an electrical/main board issue in my opinion. So it is a slippery slope if your trying to repair it yourself. If you look at ones sold on ebay recently they are selling around 140/150, parts and your time can easily add up to that. Frankly I would retire the old girl and get something a bit newer.

Thanks - yes I have ordered a replacement SX50 (in excellent condition) and suspect that you are correct in trying to repair it. However, I might have a go at stripping it down again and this time take a look at the USM and see if anything looks odd. Would be great if there was a cog with some muck on it! Something I could actually see.

I also have several Panny's (most new) and some Sony's (also new). Maybe I'm like a shepherd who doesn't want to lose any of his sheep :)
