This is not a camera technical issue but as I could not find a more suitable section I decided to post here. Since several weeks ALL my jpg image files in my PC changed file extension and icon, and look like pdf files. When double-clicking on the thumbnails (outside of Photoshop environment) I get a message that "Acrobat does not support this kind of files". I have to right-click and choose "open with..." then the image opens with the photo processing program I choose. This is, obviously a glitch, probably connected with automatic Windows 10 upgrades, as I have seen many people complain on various sites, but no one offered a solution. Anyone have any idea why this happened and how it can be dealt with? Vasilis
Most likely .jpgs got accidentally associated to adobe acrobat. Here is a link that should help you correct that: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-change-file-associations-in-windows-2624477
Thanks for your reply MikeM. I visited this site but I got the impression that the instructions refer to changing ALL file extension of a specific type to that of another and opening with a specific program. I am afraid that this would cause more problems; in my PC I have both jpg and pdf files and I don't wish my pdf files to change file extension to jpg, as they would not open with Acrobat. I am not too familiar with such procedures, so I'll have my computer specialist check this site out, as regards my problem. Thanks for your response again.
Change file associations will have the default program updated. It will not change your jpg to pdf at the end of the file name. Mikes suggestion is assuming windows has JPG and PDF set to open in acrobat. You just need to reset you .jpg default program. You can set it to photo/paint/photoshop it does not matter. You also have the option when right clicking a file to open with and then select the program. This is about 5 min of effort, so I would try to do it yourself before taking it to a technician.
To further add, if images is showing as Acrobat, that further verifies the default app for images got changed to that. There is also a Reset button which will put the file associations back to the defaults Microsoft recommends.
Thank you all, my friends, for the advice. In fact, you did help me find the solution although I was not sure I had understood right. I did it with one image. I did set PS Elements as the default program for all "similar" file types and ALL my jpg files returned to normal ".jpg" extension automatically. I had feared that all my pdf files would be affected but this was not the case. I also feared that I might have to repeat the procedure with all my jpg files but this fear was unwarranted too. Thanks again. Vasilis
