I recently bought an eos RP with a RF 24-105mm lens . Used for first time at sunrise this morning and found quite significant vignetting at 24mm . Is this “normal” for this lens ? or perhaps a malfunction? Many thanks for any replies . Paul.

Thanks Gary , disappointed by this lens then as the vignetting is very dark & severe - I expected better from Canon . Never had this degree of issue with ef or efs lenses . Cheers Paul
I am assuming you are also shooting this wide open at 4.0? While the RF seems to have a little more pronounced vignetting from what I am reading a few other questions... are you using a filter, shooting a wide angle with a filter can introduce that too, underexposure will turn corners dark quickly.
Hi Gary, Thanks for the input :- shooting at 24mm - f11 to f16 ( mainly f11) - no filter- yes was under exposing ( still getting feel for camera) First time out with camera for a sunrise .Never had such pronounced vignetting ever , so abit concerned.
Further investigations: I’ve taken test shots across the entire aperture range @ 24mm at normal exposure + 1 stop under exposed and all photos had significant black vignetting.I attempted 35mm tests but it started to rain so aborted that effort . Think I’ll return with the lens to the retailer tomorrow to see if they can have it tested to establish if it operates within promised parameters. If this is as good as it gets then my opinion of Lens is ......well unflattering.
Is this the F4 lens or the F4-f7.1 that often comes as a kit with the RP camera, and if it is the latter, does it make a difference? Roy
I think we for the most part were thanking you had the 4.0 L copy. Having the inexpensive $400 4-7.1 stm, I'm less surprised you say there is noticeable vignetting, it still sounds like it could be performing outside of range.
can you post a picture of the vignetting, just to rule out an optical fault outside what others might be experiencing
I think that you will find that it's the nature of this lens and that there is nothing wrong so to speak with your lens. Even so I would be interested in how this pans out with this lens for you. Gary
Update : I took the lens back to the camera shop yesterday and showed the salesman the jpgs of the vignetting at various aperture settings. He replaced it with a new one .I’ve been testing the replacement and the deficiencies are more akin to the examples shown in the reviews I have read . Thanks for all assistance. Cheers Paul.
