Hi everyone :) I have just purchased my first Canon - Rebel SL3. It's expected to arrive Wednesday!

I received my first 33mm film camera, a Pentax K-1000, in 1986 my senior year of high school and loved it (still have it). Years later I decided to stick with Pentax and purchased a K-50 - unfortunately it had that dreaded black picture/sensor issue. After long thought and debate, I have chalked that up to a loss and will try to sell the lenses.

Although I haven't received my Rebel yet, I've read the manual already (who doesn't do this?!). I'm really excited about using this camera and getting back into photography (not on my phone!).

Looking forward to being a part of this community. I didn't see if there were any specific camera model forums - is that a thing here?

Welcome to the forums Tracy, good luck with the new Rebel SL3. I also started my 35mm journey with a K100SE, early 90's for me when I was a 7th grader.

Hello Tracy and welcome to the forum.

I still have a K1000. There are a few users here that use more than one system. I still use Pentax, but not as much as I once did. With your K50, I was under the understanding. that the solenoid can be replaced with a "better" one than what Pentax put in the camera.

What is this manual that you are talking of? Cough, I know of one person.:p

I am looking forward to your input.

Welcome Tracy, I have a K1000, a K1000 SE with the brown leatherettes and a variety of other film cameras 35mm, 120mm 4x5 and a 8x10. If you have a few different lenses for the K1000, you can get a manual adapter for them for use on the canon.

Oh, really? That's interesting! I only have kit lenses at this point - and I believe they're the same focal lengths as the old Pentax lenses. Thanks for that info :)

Honestly, it seemed getting it fixed was quite a hassle and I would have had to ship it somewhere I believe. As it was my first DSLR, I had a hard time learning all the intricacies of the settings, etc. So I'm really loving my Rebel SL3 as it's like a bridge camera to me - there are the two levels of display and for now I'm using the "beginner" mode (so to speak - I forgot what it's called). After looking at other Pentax's and seeing the issue might have carried over to new models, I called it a loss - I'm really really happy I switched!
