I have an old Canon 50mm 1.8 lens with m39 threads I have been wanting to use on my 5d mk ii. I got an m39 to eos adapter and all seems to fit well on the 5d except I can not focus the lens. Focus on the lens ring from 1m to infinity are just a blur. I use other manual focus lenses with out a problem so surprised at this failure. Any help is appreciated.
Hmmm...m39 mount lens are rangefinder lenses and will not be able to focus on dslr's. It will work on eos-m bodies. That's my best guess.
Welcome to the forum, Wintery, does your adapter have a piece of glass in it to allow for infinity focus, if not it may be like a FD mount to EOS mount I purchased, I had one with the glass and my FD lenses worked fine but I purchased a second one with out the glass and it was useless, this may be the case with your adapter.
The adapter throws the lens forward from the position it would normally be in when attached direct to a camera. Unless the adapter has a correcting lens in it, this inevitably means that only close focus is possible. I assume the other manual lenses you refer to as working successfully are mounted to the camera without an adapter?
Thank you all for helping me clear up this question. As well, the replies have me checking over my adapter use in general and I see I have been compensating during manual focus with all of my ‘adapted’ lenses. Now I will skip the $9.95 fixes and look deeper into getting quality tools so I can enjoy my photography more. I appreciate the time and knowledge you were willing to share to help straighten me out.
