So I just got done ordering my first Canon products, but due to the holiday I'll have to wait until Wednesday to get them. I've been shooting Pentax for the past few years and absolutely love them, I have the full frame K1 and a crop K3.

I mostly do wildlife and the lack of new long fast lenses is what made me look at Canon. I'm shooting with the Pentax DA560 F5.6 now on the K1 and its great but that's all they had, no 400/2.8 600/4.

So I just ordered the 600/4 from B&H and will probably sell off some Pentax lenses and then add the 400/2.8. I will definitely be keeping the smaller focal length glass though and the K1.

I've found this forum through the Pentax Forum and hope it will be as big a help to me as they were, I'm still very new to photography and learned so much from them but now I have a new system to learn. I downloaded the user manual to study up on until the new stuff arrives but I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.

I hope so. I've spent hours and hours reading reviews and watching videos about Canon bodies. I went back and forth on three bodies before I decided.

Hopefully it will arrive early Wednesday morning and I will be able to try it out but I probably will have to wait until Thursday.

My gear came today! Charged up my batteries and have started going through the settings and it is much more complicated than my Pentax.

So many auto focus choices, I guess I will have to try them out to see what I like best. Right now the weather doesn't look so good for tomorrow but I'll try to get out first thing and get my first shots.

The camera feels solid and with the battery grip it's pretty big, slightly bigger than the Pentax K1. I've always preferred my Pentax bodies with grips, they just felt better in my hand but this body is a good size on its own I may not need the grip. I do love how they designed the grip to hold the battery door in it so you don't lose it. I've never used the larger memory cards before, the compact flash ones. I have a 64 gig Sandisk Extreme Pro hopefully it will be big and fast enough.

The lens seems impressive, solid build but the lens hood does seem a little cheap. I'm sure it's that way to save weight but only time will tell how durable it is. The lens also has a weird tripod mount handle. Underneath where you can attach a quick release plate it has two screw holes, not uncommon for a long lens but what is weird is they are two different size threads. I had to order a new plate and I'm kind of surprised B&H didn't have that down as a suggested accessory.

Looks like you're all set to go take pictures!

Also I think the Canon cameras are more simple than the Pentax cameras. I think it's because I started out with Canon, so whenever I use a Pentax it's very confusing to me. You're probably just the opposite :p

i, too, find canons simpler, but it's probably because my first digital camera AND my first DSLR were both canons. my husband's pentax didn't seem as easy to use, but then i haven't shot much with pentax cameras.

Weather is killing me, cloudy and rainy all day and not looking to get better until Saturday and I have to work this weekend. Maybe I will just try shooting something just out front to see what the file sizes and image are like. I was really hoping to shoot something I have done with my Pentax to really compare the two.

I had 2 systems for a short while. Made choosing what to bring a bit of a dilemma (had a 17TS and 150-600 for Canon, nothing in between, and everything else for Pentax.) If you just go birding I guess that would make the choice easier. I doubt the cheapo hood was to make a 25lb lens 4 ounces lighter :)

I finally got out on Friday to try it out, only for a hour before I had to go to work. I just wanted to get a few shots and make sure it was all working I really didn't mess with lots of settings just shot in M with auto ISO.

First impression so far is that the auto focus is much faster and I don't think I will have any regrets buying it. It will take some time to learn all the settings and get used to the layout of the buttons and wheels. The hood is a poor design I think, the Pentax 560mm lens hood is so easy to use it's a shame Canon doesn't have a simialar style. The added weight wasn't to bad to walk around with either, I just did a short three mile walk with it mounted to a monopod.

I tried to post a couple pictures on Saturday but got a pop up message saying something about a security message and to try to refresh the page but it didn't work. I will have to try again Sunday if I have time.
