What appears to be a very good photo editing program is proving a challenge. The Basic Image Adjustment which is the first option that appears when "Edit image" is selected is totally unresponsive. I tried uninstalling the program and re-installing it to no avail. Does this only work with RAW? I do not have that option any longer since I replaced my Pro1 with the SX40.
Are you referring to Digital Photo Professional? If so, it works with RAW and jpegs. What version are you using? Gary
In addition to the version of the DPP4 software, what OS are you using and what sort of hardware?? Freezing could be due to the application operating system and hardware mix. There were people with AMD chipsets a few years back hazing some hanging issues. Also if you have a NAS connected that could be causing it as well.
DPP is mainly a RAW converter/editor and although some parts of it work with JPG files there are limitations, These are not limitations of DPP but the fact that with a JPG file a lot of the editing options that would be available in a RAW file have already been set and fixed when the JPG was formed in the camera. It sounds as though your version is working correctly, with a JPG file most of the options in the basic editing window of the tool pallette are greyed out and the only options you have in that window are "auto lighting optimiser" and "sharpen". The other windows of the tool pallete still have options that will work with JPGs.
Thanks Ray, that is about correct. Some of the other features are useable. I am looking at the SX50 as a possible replacement some day, and that has RAW. I the meantime, the Windows photo editor seems as good as any for basic improvements.
Honestly I would buy a much newer bridge camera, these aren't that expensive. SX50 is from 2013 your still a decade old, and the mega[pixels have doubled since then. You can get a suitable bridge that is pretty new for a reasonable price.
