    Hi Everyone,

I just recently bought a EOS 90D from Amazon. I love this camera alot.

Anyhow, I was trying to change the FPS to 23.97, but couldn't. I've read that Canon released firmware 1.1.1 to address 23.97 FPS. I downloaded from the Canon Canada website. But when I tried to install 1.1.1. it says the firmware in my 90D is 1.1.2. and could not update since 1.1.1. is older.

Anyone having this issue? Or is it just me?

    Thank you

    William

1.1.2 would be newer, oddly 1.1.1 is listed as the newest on the US website too, but to be fair that was last posted in Oct 2019, so i suspect other updates may have happened.. I don't have the 90d, and did not get a result. You can try running the update firmware from the canon EOS utility while connected to the camera. Maybe someone else with a 90D on here has a similar experience, but i would expect the fps fix to be on that firmware as well.

    I figured it out.

The video region was set to PAL. Once I switched to NTSC. Problem solved. Rookie mistake

    thank you for the reply

Good catch, I was so focused on the weird situation of the firmware not being up to date online that I didn't even think about any settings that could block the fps, but to be fair i shoot 99.9% still.

Recently bought a 90D from Canon Store UK. Runs on firmware 1.1.2 out of the box. It seems that the camera was made in June 2022, if I read correctly the sticker on the box (by the way, is that the meaning of the date printed there)? Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am French and I bought my 90D at FNAC and delivered like you with firmware 1.1.2 which does not exist on the Canon.fr site either. I called them and they are not aware of this version and have to contact me again. After reading all your posts, have you noticed any quirks with your 90Ds and this new firmware? Thank you all.

Canon is taking a very interesting position on this...

All press releases and official website for Canon 90D talk about v1.1.1, e.g:

    https://capturearena.com/canon/eos-90d/firmware-update/

however, as shown, many cameras are sold with v1.1.2 firmware.. supposedly, by Canon :) however, there is no way to know FOR SURE, since that v1.1.2 is a so-called "service firmware" which "does not modify functionality" (yeah, right), and so you may end up with several 90D running different firmware 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 without an easy way to upgrade/downgrade (they told me to send in the cameras for repair and they'll update the firmware for me)

hopefully my v1.1.2 is from real canon and not some hacker who reverse engineered it... when asked why they do not upload 1.1.2 so that people have a peace of mind they are running correct code, and have control as always to flash/reset a camera themselves?

got a reply in email, some copy/paste general paraphrased, we do whatever we want and since u paid $1000 for the unit, you have NO SAY :) :) here is the email from their customer service supervisor:

    Code:
Hello and Thank You for contacting Canon.

In response to your question about firmware.
There are occasionally firmware versions that are used as service only firmware. These do not always get posted to the Canon USA website, as they do not add any functionality to the camera.
Any time a firmware update is posted, it is accompanied by an update notice. In the rare cases that a firmware is announced before it is posted, it is accompanied by a press release/announcement of some kind.
Until one notice of those types of notices is posted, we are unable to comment on a future firmware update’s availability.
    Thank you,
    Canon Customer Support
thought to share, and hopefully more users show their contempt to such bully/monopolistic bold stand and decision going against customer's best-interest.

Interesting message because Canon France's response is quite different. I let you read their answer (in French).

I think the big take away I see s that Canon didn't feel there was any reason to push the update as it did not really change anything for the camera owner. Still I think it should be made available, I'm sure there is some very minor difference in the code otherwise they would not be using it. But...honestly I don't get to bent out of shape, once I've hit a major stable release i've gone a few years without even paying attention to what minor updates existed. (If it ain't broke don't fix it right?)

At the bottom line, not very different answer if u ask me :)
users end up with 2 types of 90D neither can be made "equal" to the other since it is not possible to downgrade firmware, and not possible to update firmware....

As for "no change" in functionality, we should add: "that they are aware of", anytime code is touched, there could be artifacts or issues that might not be uncovered until later...

All, without any malice, that is a "bad" person figuring how to upload their own v1.1.2 firmware and having that no one can know for certain if its authentic or not.. it is what it is.. hopefully customer push back will change their ways.. otherwise, u start with small steps, then stomp even more..
