I'm wanting to purchase the canon 200mm f/2. eBay has it for $5000...that's $600$-700 cheaper. Anyone have experience with this type of sale?
I have heard that sometimes they are items not meant for sale in the US. So it could be a item that was originally meant for sale say in China or Australia and its warranty will not be honored in US. Amazon also has them listed and I think they give a better explanation. You may not even be able to get it fixed at your cost at a authorized Canon service provider either from what I read, not sure if that is true or not you could call Canon and ask. But if you don't think you will need to send it in for warranty work you could save some money.
From what I have read (when I was buying the Canon 50mm 1.8), it comes down to warranty. I don't think the cheaper priced one will be supported for warranty in the US. I could very well be wrong though.
Correct, I looked up your listing. In the details it says they are not an authorized Canon dealer. They sell items cheaper buy importing them. They do say the provide a 1 year warranty through them since the canon warranty does not apply. Up to you i suppose, it's a decent savings and I doubt you'll need the 1 year warranty either way; my concern would be any long term support if there is an issue down the road, especially considering the cost of the lens.
