Has anyone had the same issues I have been having with my RF 70-200 F2.8 (ver-1) tripod collar releasing and causing everything to fall to the ground? It has happened to me twice causing major damage. In my opinion this is a badly engineered collar that does not work to "Spec's" as they have told me it does.... I can not trust this lens anymore which is restricting my using the lens unless it's hand held...
Nothing that was on my radar but.... Looks like you are not alone, https://www.google.com/search?q=rf+...EuM7gH6RHCBwUwLjkuNsgHJw&sclient=gws-wiz-serp Seems related to worn foam pad or loose retention screw as a general rule.
Johnsey... Thanks for the link. This is a fairly new lense. My collar is in great shape so the foam isn't worn out. Canon sent me a brand new one and it does the same thing. The problem in my opinion is the tension spring in the tightening knob. If something happens to where the lens gets bumped and the force is greater than the spring tension the collar will release. This has happened to me twice. I can hand hold the ring and pull it apart. I have to tighten the knob so tight that it won't release... but then I can't spin it. Unacceptable... especially for the money that this lens costs. Canon refunded me the $447 it cost me for the first repair. I'm currently talking to a lot of Canon reps to come up with a plan to replace this with the 70-200 Z lens that has a fail proof collar. I am not willing to spend another $100 for an after market collar when this is a Canon engineering problem. I'll update as this progresses with Canon's response to my issue.
There are really good brands that make collars after market, Really Right Stuff for example.... May be worth some research instead of upgrading the lens. https://reallyrightstuff.com/lc-a50-collar-foot-package-for-canon-rf-70-200/ Which collar did you get?
Dave, I never seen one as most of my gear is older stuff but I had a look at you lens on youtube and it issue, turns out it is a common fault so may I suggest have a look at The Canon RF 70-200 2.8 has a PROBLEM - Tripod Collar Replacement, the suggested replacement may be worth your time.
