Hey, Everyone I’m new to the forum, and wanted to get a little real life experience with the 100-300mm 2.8. I’m shooting college football along with some highschool and little league, also shooting lacrosse. I’ve always used the 400mm 2.8 and was looking at the 100-300mm. I know the versatility of the 100-300 is great but is it to short for the sports I’m shooting? Sometimes I feel the 400mm gets a little tight when plays are moving towards you. I never used a 300, so I’m hoping I can get some honest feedback back if anyone used the 100-300. I’m also contemplating the R1 but I feel with using the 100-300 if I need to crop the r5 mkii might be a better option cause I’ll have more megapixels to crop. This is just a thought. If I’m over thinking it please let em know.
Have you thought of picking up a 1.4 Canon Teleconverter for you 70-200 and taking that zoom for a test drive as it will give you a good gauge of usage?? I cant imagine dropping 10k on a lens without renting it or test driving it. I would think that a TC on your 70-200 would be pretty good and the extra lens would not be required. Especially given the cost.
welcome to the forum, Joe, renting is advisable as Johnsey has advised, given the cost of the lens. It will also let you know if you feel comfortable with that lens in it's use.
