What a load of cod's wollup, Old boy, you can improve your shots by getting out of auto.
Put your camera on TV or time value at a higher shutter speed which was needed to freeze the wing beats of the humming bird. This will also help your photography, this is like auto but you select the shutter speed and the camera will do the rest
Being older and not as steady as we used to be, the faster shutter speed will help by freezing the action in the shot, sort of like the wing beats of the humming bird but in reverse, namely your movement while take the shots. Now go out and give it a try by taking a heap of shots, see the difference.
If you are not sure how to do this please ask myself or some-one on the forum will willing help.

I don’t shoot in auto. I’ve only used manual since the early days. I’m blown away by its critical focus. He’s nailed it.
I appreciate the info very much and the help you have afforded me.
I’m not a novice but I do need to catch up to speed once again so it’s a joy to receive such relevant info. Thank you

No problem, another reason PP takes exceptional photos is the time and patience he puts in, you see a lot more by sitting quietly and just watching.
