Hi, new here but not to canon, I have recently purchased this model and would like to use it in M mode but somewhat confused because when I set the appropriate shutter speed followed by aperture for the photo, whatever I do with ISO, it changes the shutter speed automatically. I must be doing something wrong but I don't know what. I thought when I need a fast shutter speed, the camera would alter the ISO accordingly. Am I expecting too much technology for this model? regards Brianch
Are you sure you don't have it set in Av which is right next to M. I know the question sounds stupid, but it is he only thing that makes sense to me as that is what my 5d2 does on Av. Also in M mode I assume you noticed you need to set the On switch to the dial bar to set the aperture.
Hi Johnsey, thanks for your reply. Yes definitely in M and the dial bar. I set shutter at 500, ap. at 7.1 and whether I set ISO at a definite number or Auto, to get the correct exposure by moving the pointer to centre, the shutter speed alters but the ISO remains as set. I am beginning to think there may be a fault somewhere if I am not setting it correctly
I had to double check this but manual and bulb AUTO Iso is fixed at 400. There is not fault. I don't think canon expected users to use manual settings but want auto ISO at that time. https://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0/0300004270/02/eos5dmkii-im5-c-en.pdf To be fair in my 10 years with he camera I have never used auto iso and 90% or better of the time have it set in manual mode. I like having my ISO more controlled though coming from the days when ISO noise was bad getting above 1000. In any event the manual control of all 3 takes seconds with the dials and ISO button.
Thanks again for your time, I guess I need to take some more time and set it. Get out of "modern" thinking. I appreciate your help with this, and kind regards Brian
