I am seriously thinking of buying a 5D MK IV. I am running LR6 and PS 6. I do NOT want to bow to Adobe's ransoming us to the Cloud. Question is, can I open RAW files with those versions, will Canon Pro Photo work with them? Thanks

Looks like your fine for Lightroom 6, CS6 on the other hand no they stopped supporting the raw plugin past version 9.1 and the Mark 4 was introduced at version 9.7. Also I went with CS6, not PS 6 which is pushing two decades old and pre the creative suite. Looks like you can convert to adobe DNG if you want to directly import into Photoshop. I'm on the same situation as you with software and also am considering a mark 4, I would imagine you can also export a tiff and pull that into PS which is what I would do. Although starting at $10 a month i can see eventually giving into the cloud at some point to sync edits and be on newest versions.

Thanks. I meant CS6. So you feel that I can import into LR6 and do what I want or need bringing from LR as I do now into CS6?

Right, if your exporting something other than raw (i use tiff) i don't see any issues, but yes CS6 doesn't support a new enough raw converter to open the raw file directly. If nothing else you have enough info here to do a little more digging on the web to confirm. Either way I'm glad i looked it up to know where I would be sitting as well.

Great. Thanks for the help. Good luck on your purchase.

I own a 5D Mark IV, and try as hard as I could, No Lightroom except the newest one will handle the RAW files from it. I upgraded my computer from trusty old Windows 7, to Windows 10, then bought the Adobe CC package. I'm poor, and didn't want to, but there it is.

I think you may just not have had all the updates for LR6, RAW 9.7 introduced the 5dm4. LR6 can be updated to raw plugin 10.1 according to adobe. Also camera support for new camera's is handles through converting the raw fils to adobes raw, DNG file. So you could do that as well.
    Raw support for Lightroom 6 : 9.0 to 10.1

That said if I get a mark 4 I will probably at least go to the $120 a year subscription for LR and PS. I'm cheap and have held out too, but honest that's not very expensive, its a drive through purchase a month worth of cost. And I suppose one could argue if you can afford a $3000 camera you must not be strapped for cash too bad ;) .

I guess thats a fair assumption friend. But never assume to guess how anyone came to own a $3000 camera. You'd be wrong. I don't believe a forum is a place to defend one's finantial situation, so I'll just leave it at that. And i'll word any more future posts here more carefully. Have a good day sir.
