Hello everyone, I am completely new to the world of photography, hence I am asking for help. I recently acquired a Canon EOS 1500D as well as an (old?) Vivitar Series 1 lens. The specs of the lens is as follows: - 100-400m - 1:4.5/6.7 - Ø 67mm I'm pretty sure it's this one (https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/vivitar-series-1-100-400mm-f-4-5-6-7.html) or this one (https://www.ebay.fr/itm/166537220028), except that I don't have to black "cover" at the end end of the lens. This Vivitar lens does not match my camera and I cannot use it. I looked online on how to make it compatible, but I am struggling with all the type of mounts (T mount, T2 mount, T ring...), acronyms and terminology. Could you help me figure out my type of adapter should I buy to use this lens on my Canon camera? Thanks a lot.
If you post photos of your exact lens the group of people here could help, they made this lens in Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Pentax mounts so it could be one of many. So close ups of the front and back of the lens you have is very helpful. That said, it is over 20 years old, and we don't know if has any issues. Also if you convert between the 2 mounts it will become a fully manual lens as the electronics don't talk between camera manufacturers.
In fact you probably should consider a much more modern lens, there are inexpensive options like this... Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Lens 200 new or 100 used for example, it really depends on what you looking for, i simply found the low cost longer zoom option most similar but in your mount and made more recently by canon instead of one of my least favorite 3rd party brands.
The lenses that you really want are going to need to be 'EF' mount. I know that you can buy adaptors to use lenses from different manufacturers on different bodies. But if you are new to this, I would suggest using EF mount lenses on an EF mount body. It will make your life easier. Gary
