One of the things I love most is going to airshows and other places I can hear, see, smell and photograph aircraft - especially propeller and rotory-wing aircraft. New or vintage, on the ground or airborne, doesn't matter.

If anyone else has an interest and would like to post photos, please do. I'd love to see them.

Kind of a windy day at Lancaster CA.

Planes of Fame museum in Chino CA is one of the better known plane museums. They have a yearly airshow, and a monthly talk about one plane (with possible fly-around).

It think this is the only flying NB9M.

Steve Hinton flies at Reno, and his family is involved at Chino. Though I knew the planes were here for the weekend, I did not find them until I was leaving. They were over there around the corner.

    I waited.

Right down the road at Chino is the Yanks museum.
They had their first car show there in July of 14. This is about all that turned out, then.

10 minutes away at John Wayne airport is the Lyon air museum. It is only one hangar, but it has lots of windows, a white floor, and balcony :) They also have a collection of ground vehicles, including Steve McQueen's Panther sidecar, and Hitler's Mercedes parade wagon. They also, on occasion, have small collections of nice old cars like Packards.

Fuddy Duddy is one of the last flying B-17's.

This B-25 was William Lyon's plane in WWII.

They also have a "tarmac day" once in awhile, though the last one was rained out.

The Lyon air museum at John Wayne airport is hosting the Collings Foundation for a few days. You can walk through the planes or pay to get a flight. Uncooperative sky!

    Dual-control P-51 Mustang. $2,200 for a 1/2-hour flight.

B-17G Flying Fortress. This one was too late for WWII and was a fire-fighter for many years.

    B-24J Liberator. It's the only fully-restored and flying "J".

B-25J Mitchell named Tondelayo. This is the type of bomber that took off from an aircraft carrier and bombed Tokyo early in WWII. Some years ago I had an extra $435 and took a 1/2-hour flight in the B-25, Executive Sweet. Loud!

    B-17 bombs.

The gunner positions are offset so the gunners can move around without bumping into each other.
