Hello everyone, I mostly shoot street, cars and planning to get into portrait photography. i just ordered a canon 6d mkii with the 24-70 f4 which i find for my style will be good starting lens. but for my next lens i don't know what to get, i wouldn't mind a 70-200 but i also wouldn't mind something like an 85 prime since they're very sharp. what lens have you guys bought and you would suggest i moved from a nikon crop so that's why i kind of have to start again Thank you!
Welcome to canon! I would say there is no best lens for everything in any brand but definitely ones better than others. Based on shooting preference you may get more use out of a prime or two since you shoot street and are looking to get into portraiture. Ho much is your budget? While primes are generally sharper than zooms and of the L series 70-200 are very sharp lenses. The non-L primes are actually very nice and hard to beat for the price, you can get the 50mm and 85mm i have both for under 1000 bucks. The primes will suit you well when shooting a wide aperture for for a nice shallow depth of field. The 70-200 is a great lens as well but nice idea to save up and get IS on lens of that size, I also find getting the faster 2.8 to be worth it on a long zoom.
Hello and welcome to the forum, It is easy to spend other peoples money. For portrait, I have no idea. But Sigma do some nice art lenses, the 85 f1.4, 105 f1.4, and 135 f1.8 come to mind. I do have the 70-200 f4 IS. It is an L lens.I really like it. Sharp, small, and light. I recommend it. It doesn't come with a tripod foot, but you can get one to fit. You don't really need one, but it is an option. I have a 70-200 f2.8, in another mount, I like it as well. But the f4 version is much smaller and lighter to carry around with you. Gary
