Can a B&W image be converted to color on an EOS Rebel T7i?

I have an EOS Rebel T7i and the dial accidentally got switched to black & white. Can these images be converted to color, or am I stuck with b&w photos? This happened to me twice and some nice photos of some beautiful birds are ruined. I guess I'll try not to make that mistake a third time. Seems like every camera I get has some stupid design flaw that gets in the way of good picture taking (can't blame myself, lol).

The black and white image is a JPEG and converted in camera, see if the original is still there.
I don't think you can convert it back to colour.
May I suggest you go into your setting and set for RAW//JPEG.
If this happens again the RAW file retains the formation to make a colour image.

Have you downloaded the images to your computer? if so, are they black and white on the computer?
The reason I'm asking this is if you were shooting in RAW they will appear B/W on the camera but will download as colour images. If you were shooting in JPEG they will unfortunately be B/W when downloaded to the computer.
