Hello! My Dad passed and left me over 1,000 of his slides. I want to capture them and archive them the best possible. I have a light table setup and was going to clean each slide, then photograph them with my Canon R6 and a 100mm Macro lens. The question is... Do I use the EF 100mm f2.8 (NON-L) lens that my friend can loan me for free? Or do I spend $1,500 on the new RF 100mm Macro L f2.8? I'm trying to figure out if the archiving and possible enlargements justifies the expense. Of course I'll use the lens for other things down the road, but I wanted to ask the community if the things I'd gain using the native RF new lens are worth it over the EF lens with my EF to RF adapter? Would love to hear your thoughts and thank you in advance! Daniel
I haven't done the light table and lens setup but any good macro lens will be more than adequate to do this. In fact, from what I understand, many people that do a lot of film scanning using that method use an older body they can just leave on a setup dedicated to scanning. (And in many cases an old manual film lens they adapt to the setup) The 100mm macro non L is a nice sharp lens, I own it. I would try that lens out first before dropping $1500 bucks on the new one.
