I've just bought a brand new EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. When I turn the zoom ring there is a clicking noise, although the movement itself is smooth. Click here to listen. I have never had a zoom lens which made a noise like this before so I'm a little concerned. Obviously I can return it but I thought I'd ask here first, just in case it's a known issue but nothing to worry about.
Thanks in advance for any replies :)

I have a copy of that lens and it does not make a sound like that. If yours is brand new, I would be taking it back. That is not normal.

Well if its new return it as bad from factory, even if it isn't causing problem now it something is not right inside. And since it is new, i would switch it out while you can rather than have canon repair it. Let someone buy it from them as a referb model after they fix it themselves.
