    I really should have done these on a sunny day. I should also use a macro lens, but I don't own one. One day, maybe.

    You did them on the right kind of day. That lighting is much better than contrasty sunny light. A macro lens may have been better but you filled the frame with what you had. I don't think you could have done better than you have.
