I have been going around in circles trying to get my RP to connect to my laptop so I can control my camera via my laptop. I want to use the USB port, and not the built in wifi. Each time I connected the camera and laptop with the USB cable, the EOS utilities window would pop up, but the options were greyed out. So the software knew that I had connected my camera

I checked that DPP is up to date, Canon utilities is up to date, camera firmware is up to date. Still no go.

I disabled the wifi on the camera, so to force the camera to communicate via the cable. Still no go.

I then had a rummage around the house and found another USB cable. I tried that and it worked.

The strange thing was when I was using the first USB cable, I was sure that all was well as there was a green flashing light on the back of the camera.

This may be of help to someone else.
