How to disable or remove aberration correction data for lenses

    Hello

    I've discovered a wrong aberration correction takes effect with my EOS M50 / EF-EOS-M Adapter / Tamron 16-300mm when I use focal length between 16 and 18mm. The camera modes P / Tv / Av and M allows to switch off aberration correction completely and then the pictures are fine. But the other automated modes doesn't offer the menu to disable aberration correction. So I wanted to remove the data for at least my Tamron 16-300mm. But I could not find any possibility.

    Does somebody knows the secret how to fix that? The EOS Utility 3.13.20.4 displays a huge list of supported lenses but no possibility to modify or delete them.

    does the tamron lens have a hub for data fixes and customization, i have the M50 and mostly use the manual mode and have lens corrections off, i doubt the other automated modes will allow alteration, they seem pretty much 'here's how it is"
    there are a couple of those that are useful but it seems you have to use them as is.
    i've not looked deeply into it so there may be hope.
    you could try reporting it to canon and it might lead to an addition in a future firmware update

    Far as I knew, the EOS utility is loaded with just canon lenses, that being said 3 party software like Lightroom you can add 3rd part lens profiles. I have no Tamron lenses so I can't help specifically with theirs, my as assumption is you are applying a correction meant for a canon lens which is why it doesn't work right. This is something I would shoot raw and edit in post, I usually do not apply lens correction in camera.

    I guess I need to illustrate the missing menu.
    In P/ Av / Tv or M mode I can see the menu "Lens aberration correction"
    In Automated mode this menu is missing
    The lens Tamron 16-300mm appears only in the camera menu but not in the Canon Utility tool. So I could not find any way to remove it.

    Does somebody know a hack how to remove the wrong data? Or do you think Canon will fix it?

    The document with the line through it means there is no correction data, I don not believe there is a way to add a 3rd party profile to the camera, but again I have not tried. I believe the camera is simply telling you which lens is attached and if you have the ability to apply correction or not. Even if there was a profile that existed for this lens it would apply to Crop DSLRs and would likely have incorrect changes when applied to an M mount camera. With a 3rd part lens on an adapter your looking at turning everything off and applying in post your corrections.

    If you want to reapply your firmware and try to clear it out you can try, but I believe it is getting the lens name from the lens itself and the word doc with line through it tells you if you have a profile on the camera that matches. ( Again I do not have an M50 to test and be sure of this).

    When I mount my other lens Sigma 50-500mm then the camera states it has no correction data - which is fine.
    Is there a tool to remove such correction data? It's better to have none instead of wrong ones for me.

    with my sigma lenses there is a dock that you can get, i have it but have never used it, does tamron have anything like that?
    used for firmware updates and custom settings

    I have the USB dock for one of my Sigma lenses (17-70mm Contemporary) but I have never heard of anything like that for Tamron lenses.

    Did you purchase the m50 new yourself?
    Canon does not make 3rd party profiles so there would be nothing to remove, it may do a bad job of warning that some types of lens are not supported. The sigma is an EF, the Tamron an EF-S neither are native M mount. These are not an apple to apple comparison, and non canon gear can act funny depending on the lens age/firmware.

    I did suggest you update your firmware on the m50 if you have not.
    And you could look at having the Tamron lens firmware updated on it maybe the canon would send a proper not supported warning in that case. https://www.tamron.jp/en/support/update.html

    Yes I purchased the M50 new two weeks ago, together with the EF-EOS-M adapter. The firmware was already up to date with 1.1.0.
    Both lenses work as perfect as designed.
    The only thing I've a reason to complain is that I cannot turn off the abberration correction in automated mode. Canon would be able to solve that with a firmware update. Two pictures illustrates that: IMG_0120a.jpg with and IMG_0121a.jpg without.

    Thanks for that info, Gary. I am now better educated.
    Doesn't matter that it is now shown in Canon mount. My Sigma 17-70mm is in Pentax Mount. :)

    the automatic modes in the canon are probably not going to allow for much adjustments by design.
    was it one of the special effects modes you wanted to use the lens with?

    I'm satisfied when I can disable the lens adjustments in automatic mode. But for that Canon needs to modify the firmware so that the menu becomes available in all modes and not only for P/Av/Tv/M.

    which mode you want it disabled in, i have something i can try with mine.
    ok looks like it is fully fix mode, what you see is what you get, best solution is to recreate the effect in manual, what ever it is you are doing,
    have you tried turning off the correction in M then switching to scooby doo mode?

    Yes - I've turned off all corrections which works for P/Av/Tv/M modes.
    But this setting is just ignored in automated modes - I guess what you mean with scooby doo.
    So I got the idea to remove the values of this lense so it cannot be take effect. But I could not find any possibility - neither on the camera nor with EOS utilities.
    I've raised a support incident yesterday but no answer yet. Until then I'm restricted to the P/Av/Tv/M modes. It's not a disaster but quite ugly.

    Can I ask what value the full auto/scene mode adds over the program(P) mode? They are both automatic, the full auto mode by design takes all control away from the user.
