Appologies if this is a very old and contentious question: I know the difference between a crop sensor and a Full frame, the focal length difference and about dividing 1.6 when using and EF lens on a Crop sensor etc etc, so what my question is aimed purely at is the image and detail quality only:
What would the Image quality be like using the EF 100 L lens on an 80D APS camera be like? especially on Macro, would it give much better sharper and more detailed results than my current lens, the EF-S 55mm-250mm lens. Thanks

You should notice a difference regardless of the body, The 55-250 performs well especially around f8 or 11, but the 100mm macro will be sharper across the whole range, i have the non-L and that is quite sharp, and pixel peepers show examples of how the L outperforms that even.
If you want to shoot close up like a macro and think you want to shoot wide open you will notice the difference.
