    Hey,

So I'm looking for a somewhat inexpensive standard zoom lens for my Canon 60D. Currently my only lens is the 40mm 2.8 pancake lens, which I like, but I could definitely benefit from having a wider variety of focal lengths. I've been looking at the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 or maybe a used 17-40mm L. I'm a college student so I don't want anything crazy expensive at the moment, max probably $500 CAD or so (I live in Vancouver, BC).

Ithink both of those would be very good options to pick from. I did the same thin myself back in 2004, i bought the nifty 50, but very quickly upgraded to the 17-40L and used that as primary lens through most of college.
