Trying to connect new R5 to Macbook but it won't appear on the computer so therefore not seen as a source in Lightroom. Tried Bluetooth, wifi and (canon supplied) usb cable but no absolutely sign of camera on laptop although all indications and screens on camera appear to be as suggested so I suspect something on laptop is amiss. Followed 'help' advice to allow software to access camera in |Privacy settings but didn't really apply as I don't have any software showing in that section. Not much helpful info in camera guidebook (despite 900+ pages) and if it means anything to anyone I am on Catalina 10.15.7 Any ideas gratefully received?
i'm on catalina 10 11 06 and i have no problem with my M50 have you checked out youtube vids on R5 and macbook?
Thank you, I have tried YouTube but the videos I have found do not really cover problem solving but just repeat what should happen. Will keep trying. Thanks again.
What version of EOS Utility do you have installed? You should be using that to connect to the camera, not lightroom on its own.
Thanks for reply. I have the correct version of CanonConnect but following the process nothing on the Mac recognises the camera. The camera makes all the right signs in the menu responses but nothing happens on the computer side. When I connect the camera directly via usb, using the Canon lead that came with it, it just does not register on the laptop, hence my comment about LR not being able to see it. I just feel sure it is due to settings somewhere or something I am misunderstanding and doing wrong although the directions seem fairly clear.
CanonConnect the phone app? I do not know of anyway to connect the camera to the computer through the phone app. EOS Utility 3.x is what you should be using to establish a data transfer.

Try using the AC adapter kit ACK-E4 as the camera's power supply while connecting the camera to the computer. Or, you can use EOS Utility to open the communications between the camera and the computer. Check this support page, https://vn.canon/en/support/8000786001
