    The foreground is part of the lake which has dried up in the past years because the water source which fed the lake was diverted in 1941 to feed the city of Los Angeles.

    The mountain in the backdrop is where the Tioga pass road (CA 120) starts its steep climb up to Yosemite valley and beyond.
