Canon Rebel T2i. Notebook PC with windows 11. Connect the camera to the USB port. The notebook does not recognize the camera. I see an error in the device manager: "Unknown USB drive. (Device descriptor request failed.) I tried different USB ports and two cables.
Welcome to the forum, Mark. There has been issues with Windows 10 and 11 being compatible with the camera's software, this issue has come up before on the forum, take the memory card out of the camera and either insert the card directly into the notebook or via a card reader, Windows 10 and 11 suck, I have stuck with Windows 7 and have not had any issues.
What are you actually trying to do when you connect your camera? Tethering? Or downloading images? Gary
Did you install EOS Utility 2.14.20a Updater for Windows? I'm not sure if it will work on 11 or not, but that was the last update for their EOS package for your camera back in 2015, they did not updating for the newer windows versions so it is not officially supported. http://gdlp01.c-wss.com/gds/0/0300014680/01/eu-2-14-00-w-im-en.pdf It supported cameras made roughly 2007 through 2013, everything since then has been put on eos utility 3.
Downloading images and remote shooting. I can download images by inserting the card into my laptop reader, but I don't know how to do remote shooting except for tethering.
Both computers windows 11? My old 5dm2 shows up under portable devices as long as I have EOS utility 2.14 installed. But that is Windows 10.
You will not see it in file explorer canon will not let that work that way, they manage the formatting on the card, in fact to avoid issues it should be reformatted every time you take it out an use it in a car reader. It should however be able to 1. be seen in the devices application if you have the right version of the utility for your camera, and 2. be able to be recognized for file transfer from the camera. It may be worth a fresh remove, restart, install on windows 10 to see if that works. Windows 10 from my experience works with the older version of the utility. If you can't get 10 to work i would even try 11, it is not officially supported. All of this was designed for windows Xp & 7.
