I recently uploaded an image here and after the fact noticed that the blue background in reality, is not blue. The Image is: "One of Wife's Awesome Lilies." The blue is actually my street was paved with Hot Top, not Asphalt. So I wonder why the blue and not black as it should be. I used Auto White Balance and wonder if I should have taken a shot of the Gray Scale Card and entered it into Custom White Balance. No flash was used. I should mention that this color also appears when concrete is a part of the image. Thanks very much for any and all assistance. Tony
https://www.canonforums.com/threads/one-of-my-wifes-awesome-lilies.6387/ Did you shoot this at dusk/dawn? The image looks like it possibly was shot at what is called blue hour, which is why there are even some cool tones in the light reflecting on the flower.
The image was taken at dusk. How does one prevent this sort of thing from happening? Thanks Johnsey. Tony
If your concerned with even lighting and most balanced color, shooting on an overcast day is probably the best, and of course you can always dial in custom white balance and/or use a grey card. The sun will add warmer tones while shooting without the sun up will make images cooler. Photographers actually wait for blue hour and golden hour on purpose for the lighting effects that they produce.
As i only shoot jpeg i use the white balance to correct the colour or to be creative with it in camera the other thing i have available is the colour graph to shift the B.G.A.M. values, on my M50 after you hit w/b you can hit info to enter this. (whats the correct name for the green magenta cyan red shift box thingy?) i found this on line if you not know what i mean from my discription, this is one from an 80d not M50 but its similar if you are shooting raw i guess you can do all this in post, personally i find it easier to do it in camera then shoot Jpeggers huh, always editing the picture before its taken..................
