Like some ideas/thoughts on what lens y'all might recommend. I have owned for some years the Canon EF 70-300 1:4-5.6 IS II USM with image stabilizer and I bought it for how light it is. The problem is it is so SOFT that I almost hate to use if for much. I needed a travel lens that was light and easy to carry, along with my wide angle lens that is very very good. For hiking and travel I just needed the light telephoto. I own the canon 70-200 EF 1:2.8 L IS USM, which is one of the greatest lens's I have ever owned or shot with, but for general travel I just can't carry the weight anymore (unless it's Africa or by car). The question is what can you recommend, even really good off brands (like Sigma)(that can mount to a canon body) that could give me the reach of the Canon 70-300 1:4-5.6 but has the clarity and sharp focus of the 70-200mm 1:2.8, and is light, the most important factor. The 70-33mm is about 16.8 ounces, just over 1 lb.
i use the canon canon M50 so i'm running some pretty lightweight set ups when i use the native efm lenses, as for an ef long range, i have the sigma 100-400mm c which comes in at 43.1 oz / 1220g which is an EF mount. (the efm lenses only work with efm bodies)
