Here is a tentative list of lenses that Canon has slated to discontinue manufacturing.

The report alleges that a huge swath of lenses will no longer be manufactured: EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF 14mm f/2.8L USM, EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM Macro, EF-S 35mm f/2.8 IS STM Macro, EF-S 55-250mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM, EF 135mm f/2L USM, and the EF 180mm f/3.5L USM Macro.

It also alleges that four more lenses are set to cease production by the end of the year: EF 35mm f/2 IS USM, EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM II, EF 400mm f/4 DO IS USM II, and the EF 500mm f/4L IS USM II.

So sad to see my favorite: EF-S 55~250mm, IS, STM is on the Chopping Block. I was considering selling both of mine, but not now anyway. Hope this helps and thnx for viewing. Tony

    A little Canon stuff

The slow end of the EF lens?

The push for the R mount, lower sales on some of these lenses, some of these lenses maybe of an older design that are due for an update, or maybe a combination of all of them.

Yes, I believe you are spot on. I never thought Canon would axe any of their awesome L series lenses. Low consumer demand perhaps.
    Thnx, Tony

well canon have previously said they will make ef glass again if the demand is there
it makes sense for them to concentrate on building up the rf lenses, they have along way to go if they want to have a line up like the ef ones

yes i had seen that a few days ago, not often i refer to tony and chelsea on youtube but i did like their early coverage of the R3 with the history of the R3 name, esp useful for someone coming into the canon fold at the mirrorless stage.

I have recently bought a Canon R6 mk2 and am disappointed to find that with my EF 24-70mm L f/4 lens the eye focus doesn't work whereas it works flawlessly with my EF 100-400mm L and my EF 100mm f/2.8 L macro lens.

Do you mean auto focus or eye tracking? I suspect eye tracking since this is mirror-less, and unless every image is focusing bad with that lens, the lens would not be the issue. Also I suspect if the other lenses work fine then its not the camera focus as the issue.

While you can get close to a subject even with a wide lens, i will make a general assumption that your eye tracking is working with smaller subjects as you get to this wider lens, so your many many focus points are searching for an eye to track and looking at contrast trying to track the minimal movement. I doubt the tracking is the problem itself.
MY guess is with the wider image you have found trouble with getting it to select the right focus point for tracking, the camera tells you what it thinks should be focus on(but its just looking at light through an algorithm). Are you able to manually select the focus point? I have been dialing in manually my focus point on my 5 d camera line for a decade and half when it has to do with crucial focus like an eye.

Tony , look at the upside of this, given time and with people leaving the
EF system, more will be coming on to the second hand market and a cheaper price than new, for those of us who cannot afford new gear, this is a plus.
