Hello and welcome to the forum.

I would find and have a look at a manual for the camera.........

CANON A-1 INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL Pdf Download | ManualsLib

Then I would put a battery in the camera, and see if it works. If it does, grab a roll of film to put it through the camera, and see what it produces.

Welcome to the forums Ram! Gary is right, the best way to learn is put some film in and take the camera out for a spin to make sure it works. Read over the manual get a feel for using shutter and aperture to find a working exposure for the scene.

Don't forget to set the film speed to whatever the speed is of the film you put in. I would suggest maybe a 400 or 800 speed just to be in the middle of the range as you probably will be shooting in a variety of situations. Hopefully the film meter in camera is still accurate.. :)
