I am a fairly new owner of an EOS-800D. Can I use my Sigma EF-500 DG Super ETTL flash with the EOS-800D? The camera seems to have the same hot-shoe contacts as my old camera (a Powershot G5), which implies that it ought to work, but it doesn't. Do I have to do something to enable the external flash?
    Thanks

This flash has been around for well over a decade, it may just be a compatibility issue with the newest series of cameras, Sigma would likely have to update the firmware on the old guy to fix it. I would continue to dig and see if others ar having issues with that sigma on current generation cameras.

Good news is that canon ex series flashes are supposed to be compatible, and the older EXII flashes have dropped in price quite a bit because of the RF series. (kinda irritating since i have 3 580exiis that i picked up over the last 5-6 years.
