In November of 2020, I purchased a slightly used Canon EOS 7d Mark ii and am experiencing difficulties downloading the two CD Program disks that came with the camera. The Canon EOS Digital Solution Disk is not listed as being compatible with Windows 10. ??? Also the listing shows all of the versions that are compatible with Windows 10 and version 29.4 (which I have) is not on the list. I contacted the former owner (personal friend) and he said he has Windows 10 and had no trouble in downloading this disk. In addition, I cannot download the Canon EOS 7d Mark ii Camera Instruction Manual. I placed the disks into drive E and nothing happens.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. :)

My guess is you did not download a "copy" of the solution disk because that is not the format available online, Canon will provide links to the supporting downloads separately online instead of a actual copy of the solution disk the way it is packaged as the download versions change and users will want to be up to date.

The downloads are compatible with windows 10, they did not make special ones for different windows 10 versions. In fact the programs available such as the EOS utility or Digital photo professional support use by many cameras, so you don't have camera specific versions.
The only camera specific download to worry about is the firmware, which the canon eos utility can perform the update for you.
You will still have to run the install once you download them to the hard drive. That is why nothing happened when you downloaded what you downloaded.

Instruction manual is also downloadable, using the Manuals link.

Hello johnsey, many thanks for your response. I did in fact download the 7d mark ii instruction manual from online. When I opened the instruction manual, I looked up the page for installing the two disks that came with the camera, and that is where I discovered that the versions I have are not compatible with Windows 10 and that the solution disk, v. 29.4 is not on the compatibility list. Confusing as to why Canon would include disks that are not compatible with every version of Windows 10. Okay, let me ask you this. What exactly does the Canon EOS Digital Solutions Disk do? This disk does not specify any camera model, all it does say is; Ver. 29.4 Software and on the other side, it states, "Manual." All I know now is that I am more confused than earlier. I never knew there were different versions of Windows 10.
I have been a Canon customer for years, so perhaps if I call them, they will walk me through all this. I admit, I am not that computer literate, but I try my best. Thnx again, Tony :)

    Hi Tony,

I realize now that you were citing a version number on the CD from canon, I missed that and interpreted the original post as a concern with a Windows and figured you pulled the number from the windows patching or something.

Lets tackle this.. I found this page is likely what you are refering in the PDF, it directs you to the driver/software/firmware download pages per camera, same end location from my link above.

Now https://hk.canon/en/support/0200409902 is a page that i was able to locate using google but i don't have a serial number, so I can not verify the format is for what you downloaded. I can confirm that it will include install files for, but these are 6 year old versions of each of those listed below.:
    Digital Photo Professional 3.14.40
    EOS Utility 2.14.10
    EOS Lens Registration Tool 1.1.0
EOS Web Service Registration Tool 1.0.1
    EOS Sample Music
    Picture Style Editor 1.14.20
    Photostitch 3.1.23
ImageBrowser EX (The latest version will be installed via the Internet.)

Now that webpage was created 6 years ago (Last Updated : 30-Oct-2014) so it listed the most recent windows versions at that time on that disk, windows 10 had not been released yet when the 7d2 was release and that solution disk was compiled with the most up to date versions of the software above at that time so that is why it is not listed. They are all compatible with windows 10, most software will run on windows 7 and 10 interchangeably. This solutions disk was packaged with multiple cameras in that time frame. The next disk version simply had updated software on it when a new camera came out months later.

You can see that the download page canon has for the camera lists many updates since that disk was created to the common software used with the 7dii the most recent version are from this year, you can select only what you need rather than install everything they have available. For example I only use the EOS utility so I can transfer images, I use Lightroom and Photoshop and have no need to install Picture style of Digital Photo Professional as it is only using up HD space at that point..

You don't need to solution disk at all, you just need to download and install the most recent version of the few pieces of software that you use.

WOW!! Thank you so much for all that effort. I did contact Canon and they said that the disks are causing the problem. So they included a set of instructions that I am having trouble printing out. It looks as though I am on the right track thanks to you and your amazing willingness to be of assistance. Will keep you posted when everything is going according to Hoyle. Greatly appreciated friend. Tony :)

Hi johnsey, I followed the instructions sent from Canon and now there are no issues in downloading and editing my Canon images to my computer. Again, many thanks for your assistance. :)
