Dug up a photo taken sometime back. Thought this was an interesting pose with the bird standing on one leg. Late evening sun creates a soft red glow.

Do you think that a square crop would work on this image?

I will give it a try Gary. There was plenty of space all around. Thanks.

I like Gary's suggestion of a square crop but I also like the negative space on the right, May I suggest a 16x9 crop to maintain part of the birds environment square crop.jpg 16x9 crop.jpg

I still like the 16x9 crop but still find it hard to argue against the 120 film look.

Took artistic license to alter the image to see how it may look. I flipped the landscape horizontally, excluding the bird. Cropped the image keeping some negative space.

Hi Sundar. I love the image. It looks very similar to our (Rufous) Nankeen Night Heron. I did a colour correction and crop (R.O.T) to give it some positive space, because it looks like its got its eye on something yummie! Also cleaned up the poop, I hope you don't mind :)

Not at all mate. This is more like how it looked. Thought the reddish glow was something do with the late evening light. Thanks.

Played around a bit more in the same spirit. Kept the late evening glow as is (it was late evening sun) but color corrected the bird. Added more space where the bird is intensely looking at, showing more of the exposed roots of vegetation in the back. Also pulled up the contrast of rock the bird is sitting on and added a bit of noise to the foreground which is not in focal plane.

Sundar, your Indian Grey Heron image has stimulated a lot of interesting comments on individual preferences particularly in view of the different crops and what is of interest contained within the image.
I find this one of the more stimulating aspects of the forum, good one Sundar. I can not wait for your next image.

All good Sundar. We all see images differently and your rework is very good. Thumbs-Up!
