It's been quite a while since I've posted here, what with Covid and other issues at home I have not been using the camera as often as I would have liked. Now that I have purchased a R6 I have a renewed interest in photography. I took the new body down to a small fishing village not too far to give the new R6 a try out. I was mainly interested to see how good the eye detect and tracking feature was. I was not disappointed. I had Subject to detect set to animal and eye detection enabled. The first image in each series is a screenshot from DPP showing the focus point, the second image is a cropped version with minimal PP. #1 Camera Model Canon EOS R6 Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE Tv(Shutter Speed) 1/800 Av(Aperture Value) 5.6 Metering Mode Evaluative Metering ISO Speed 100 Auto ISO Speed ON Lens Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary 015 Focal Length 275.0mm Image Quality CRAW White Balance Mode Auto: Ambience priority AF Mode Servo AF Servo AF Case 1 Subject to detect Animals Subject switching Enable (slow) AF area select mode Face detection + Tracking AF Drive Mode Single shooting #2 Camera Model Canon EOS R6 Shooting Mode Aperture-Priority AE Tv(Shutter Speed) 1/1000 Av(Aperture Value) 6.3 Metering Mode Evaluative Metering Exposure Compensation 0 ISO Speed 100 Auto ISO Speed ON Lens Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary 015 Focal Length 421.0mm Image Quality CRAW AF Mode Servo AF Servo AF Case 1 Tracking sensitivity 0 Accel./decel. tracking 0 Subject to detect Animals Subject switching Enable (slow) AF area select mode Face detection + Tracking AF Drive Mode Single shooting #3 I was very impressed with the camera being able to separate the bird from similar coloured background. Welcome back. How are you finding the mirrorless experience? I dipped my toe in the mirrorless pool a while ago now, and I have to admit that I prefer this sort of camera over a dslr now. You seem to be enjoying your new camera. Nice images by the way. Gary
Thanks for the welcome back Gary. I've had the camera for less than a week and I've spent most of that time just fiddling around with the controls and watching "how to" videos on youTube. One thing that I have done is a spreadsheet covering all the settings and changes that I've made from the default settings. I've been doing this ever since I had to send my original 7D in for a service at Canon and they reset it back to factory default settings, took me ages to reconfigure it again. Anyway, back to the R6, these pictures were only taken 2 days ago and I've got to say I'm very impressed with the focusing system. I'm going out on this coming Saturday on a tour of the Mornington Peninsula with a group doing landscapes, hopefully I will come back with a few decent images to post.
